8-26-10

26 days until surgery! I had my Dr's appointment this morning and this is the news I got:
I got some pills to help with nausea for giving blood next week and also help helping to discern what I had a reaction to last time after surgery. My body peeled really bad for a few weeks and so we're gonna do a test to see if we can figure out what the cause was.

I told Scheid about the screw I can see and that I can feel (what I thought was coming out), and he felt around the incision and found another screw right above the one I could see. He told me it's not coming out BUT because the swelling is all gone and because I'm so thin, I can see the bone easily which leads to feeling the screws more than other people would. (My mom thought is was pre-wedding dieting and I don't see how that could be, seeing I eat all the junk food in the world and I still don't gain weight! Haha! I have actually lost about 10lbs since surgery and it's still going down...)
So... anyway back to the screws. Scheid said that he normally won't take them out because the bones grow around them and unless they bother the patient, there is no point in digging around, trying to get them out, but because I can feel them and they do hurt, he'll take them out. In surgery, he said he'll go in and make a couple little incisions and take out the 2 screws. Not any trouble at all. So I won't have as many screws in me as i thought, but that's ok ;-) haha!
(The 2 circled is yellow are the ones he'll be taking out...)

I also requested that I have general anesthetic along with an epidural and they already made the phone call to request that for me, so hopefully that will help with the pain again!

So over all, it was a great appointment! The next time I see my doctor, he'll be saying "See you on the other side!" yeah... oh boy. It's just over 3 weeks away. eeks!

The blood donation went really well yesterday too. I was pretty scared because last time I donated, I threw up both days and that REALLY scared me. But I took some Zofran and that did wonders!!! Also, my sister was there to distract me so that helped a lot. No seeing my breakfast, this time around! Haha
If I can make it through next week, I'll be all set to go.

Now switching topics a little...
Jacob and I are have great meetings with Jeff & Pam! I look forward to our times with them every week. The Lord is so present in our talks through the weeks and I'm so thankful that the Lord is really showing through in both our lives. I know for me the Lord is really pointing out areas for me to grow more in, to trust in Him more, and to rely on Him in EVERY aspect of my day, every week. I'm excited to learn more and to grow closer to God through the life that He has given me. That's my main goal, to bring Him praise, honor and glory, though every word that comes out of my mouth and every action my body takes. Every word I speak is His. He gave me these words and I want to bring a smile to his face when I use them. That's something that Jacob and I have been talking about with Jeff and Pam and reading about in The War of Words. When we grumble about a situation in our life or something we are going through, we are in fact grumbling in the face of God. Wow. God is in complete control of our lives and He puts situations in our lives for a reason and to teach us something and when we grumble about it, we're complaining that God is trying to teach us something wonderful and trying to mold us to be like Him.
I could go on and on about stuff I have been learning but for now, I need to get ready for work...

Look for my next post.. surgery is getting closer!

35 DAYS...

before I go under the knife (and saw and chisel and screws and everything else they use in this surgery that's apparently harder the preform than open heart surgery...) I just officially freaked out...

August!

Wow. Can you believe it's already August? I know, I know, almost every other person is saying that right now but it's true! What seemed like a couple weeks ago I was heading home from work and little did I know I was going to be engaged by the end of the night! and that was LAST YEAR! And look at me now! Tomorrow is my 7 month post-op date, I heading into surgery again in just over 6 weeks, my 24th birthday is a week after my surgery and I'm getting married in under 200 days! I can't believe it. This year is FLYING by!

That being said, the Hippie Union is starting this Wednesday and going on through Sunday! Sadly, I had to step out of the Chicago part of the Union, because of finances (and it TOTALLY SUCKS!) I was soooooo looking forward to seeing the girls and hanging with them for a few days up there but I still get to see them on Saturday we're having a BIG girls slumber party on Saturday night and it's gonna ROCK!

I have like 45 days until my surgery. :/ In just over a week I'm giving my first unit of blood and on Sep. 1st, I'll be giving my second unit. My mom thinks I should only give 1 unit (so I don't loose too much blood before surgery), but seeing as last time, the first time I sat up out of bed, I passed out and the second time I got out of bed in 3 days, my BP dropped to like 80, I think I'll stick with 2 units! Other than that I'm not too worried about surgery. I'm ready to get it over with and be on the path to recovery... again! I have a goal to be off my crutches and my cain by new years so we'll see how that goes!

I'm also not looking forward to that possibility that Jacob might not be around very much for my recovery and that really sucks :( (more details to come later..) Besides God and my parents, he was the next best thing that got me through the first recovery.... *Sigh* :'( ok.. moving on...

I'm anxious to start wedding planning again! I had a dream last night that everyone in the wedding party was wearing Colts apparel, we were getting married in the produce section of Kroger and all the groomsmen were dancing to a choreographed routine... I was quite depressed in the dream and woke up thinking of everything I have to get done just so THAT DREAM does not happen!
Oh and Emily is getting married 3 days before my surgery! I'm so happy for her and Nick! And to be a part of her wedding is a true honor :) It's exciting to think that 6 years ago we hardly knew each other and now we're both in each others weddings! *sniff sniff* we're growing up.

Ok I'm sure there is more to be said but now I need to get off my computer, jump in bed and turn out my lights...
until next time..

July!

OK so a ton has happened in the past weeks. Some things I don't want to post just due to personal reasons and because the people involved are still trying to process things but this is what I can tell you...

I NOW HAVE AN OFFICIAL SURGERY DATE!!! My LPAO will be September 21st, at 8am. I have to be at the hospital at 6am and at 8am (maybe even earlier) I'll be undergoing my second major hip surgery of the year. Hopefully after this I will be have fully functional hips and I'll be done with surgeries until I'm 70! Haha. I'm SOOO scared, anxious, happy, excited,... everything. Something I am very happy and excited for is that Krystal will be undergoing the same surgery the day before I am! So even if we are 3000 miles away from each other, we'll be recovering together and supporting each other the whole way through recovery. I love you girl!!

Jacob and I also have a wedding date set! woohoo! our honeymoon is booked and we're so thrilled to be going to Hawaii for 13 days and it can't come any sooner! We're not exactly announcing the exact date just for personal reasons but we do that the date and we're very happy and in love.

God is really testing us right now by putting certain events in front of us and it's not something you can plan for, they just happen. Looking back, we feel months ago, God was in a way preparing us for events to come and we're now seeing part of His plan play out and it's been hard but we're taking things are they are being thrown at us and we're going with it. God is in control and that's what we have to keep saying. The Lord is looking out for us and we need not worry.

We had a good 4th of July, had dinner with Jayson, Katie and Lauren then went back to Jacobs house and had some wine, watched fireworks then went to his neighbors, talked, laughed, had some food and drinks! It was a wonderful night with the love of my life!

Well I'm really tired and I work this weekend so I'm gonna say goodbye for now! Leave me some love ;-)

All about the hip!.. and then some...

Wow... been a long time so lets get to it, k?!

Well the hip is doing great. I think I'm starting to get the feeling back in my leg because I get shots of pain up and down my leg and I'm starting to sense more touch to it so I hope that's a good thing! Haha! I'm full weight bearing now and I'm going to the gym a lot and I actually got on a treadmill last week for the first time, that was pretty exciting!
At my last appointment with my Dr. he said things were great and to come back in 4 months. We did talk about doing my other hip and when that would possibly be. We talked about doing it in December and that we would discuss it more in September when I see him again. Well, about a week after my appointment, I was talking with Jacob and the more I thought about it, the more I thought about having the surgery in September. My parents also thought that that sounded like a good idea to do it sooner rather than later, so I called my Dr and talked to his nurse practitioner and this is what she told me.
She talked to him and he said that if in my heart I feel fully confident in the surgery and I'm happy with how this past surgery went and I really feel like I'm ready in my heart and my body to do it again, he'll do the surgery in September. He said that a few years ago he would never do the surgery less than a year apart from each other, but because I healed so quickly, and he hasn't seen someone recover that fast, he would do it in my case.

So I'm calling tomorrow to see if he's free on the dates I have in mind, so I'll post later on if I actually get to set a date in late September.

And may I announce that in August, I'll be apart of the fist ever HIPPY UNION!!!!!!!!! (We are calling in a union, not a re-union because we have never met before...haha!) Myself-from Indy, Krystal-from Cali, Marci-from Michigan, Ashley-From Indy, Sabrina-from Indy, Jessica-From Indy,Courtney-from Indy, and possibly Nole and Amy-from Iowa and Stephanie-from Indy will be getting together to finally all meet! We're very excited for this meeting and we have big plans! We're going to Chicago for a couple days, then getting a hotel room downtown and all gonna party here in Indy for the weekend. It's gonna to be the union of the year!

Jacob and I celebrated our one year anniversary last weekend! We left for IL on Friday morning and spent the night in Gridley then Saturday morning we headed north to Chicago for the day! It was a great weekend :) We went to the museum for a few hours, then we went downtown and walked after for the rest of the afternoon. He then took me to Smith & Wollensky for an amazing dinner! I love him so much!

Well, not much more to update on but I'll update when I know more about my surgery date... Later!

4 / 19 / 10

ok so I know it's been a while! Life just gets too busy sometimes for me to blog when I want to.
Well first off I joined a gym! I'm now going to the YMCA by my house about 3 times a week and I love it. It's crazy to think I was using my crutches when I started and now I walk in even without my cane! This cute little old man came up to me last week when I went to the gym the first time without my cane and he said " I see you're here without your little friend!" He was so cute and I guess he had been watching me before when I was using my cane! It made me laugh :-)

I got o see my Dr. in about 2 weeks so I hope he's pleased with how strong I'm getting. I did try to do some lunges today with a trainer but it hurt a lot. He gave me some tips how to work up to them so I'll be trying some new workouts but it's hard in a way not to be able to do everything I could do before the surgery. But I gues now it's a waiting game until I'm healed all the way through my body. I feel a lot stronger in my legs and I have even lost like 4 pounds! I don't want to lose too much or else I will have to alter my wedding dress.. which leads me to say I now have my dress!! My sisters and I went the other night to pick out bridesmaids dresses and I asked if it was it because it had been about 11 weeks since I ordered it and she said it was in the back! I tried it on and it was a perfect fit! We have a little altering to do on the strap but it's an easy fix we can do at home. It's hanging in my room right now and I want tot ry it on all the time but I know I have to wait. Haha!

Wedding planning is coming along ok. Jacob and I went the other week to figure out the dance floor and DJ stuff because the guy doing the music has a massive set up and we had to make sure it would fit in the ballroom! ;-) We have a lot to do still but it's nice that jacob is almost done with his MBA program so that's one less thing he has to worry about this summer. We have an awesome photographer too and I can't wait to have our engagement photos taken, but that will be sometime in June. Also the pastor we have is a long time friend of my family and he told me over the years " Shelly when you get married I want to be the one to preform the ceremony" and now he is and it's a wonderful gift! Godhas been very good through the process already and I'm happy to see how He will work in the months to come.

Over all things are going alright. I have made some spirtiual changes in my life and I'm putting my full faith in the LORD that He is looking out for me and everything in my life is for Him and Him alone. He has a plan for my life and I need to let Him show me what that is. Not try to make up some new plans but fully trust in Him and lean compleatly on Him.

Ok well I'm taking a step of faith today and doing something that might change my life and I'll update in the weeks to come and let you know how it is going. Prayers would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Oh and here is a link to our wedding page! Sign our guest book so we know who's following us as we get ready to make that change in our lives!

"If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it. If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it. He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise every morning... Face it, friend. He is crazy about you! " — Max Lucado
